The sunrise this morning was so beautiful. I couldn’t resist and had to get a good run in. The weather was a crisp 30 something degrees. So I put on my Pandora radio and set out for a little jaunt. 7 miles in 58 minutes.
Last night I went to a barre class for the first time. I looked up some classes online and discovered a studio called Pure Barre in Dallas. So yesterday I set out to try something new. I signed in up front, and put my shoes in a little cubby then got my light set of weights, resistance band, and little ball.
The class was tough, and focused on lots of strength/core work, with a fusion of ballet and pilates movements. Ouch. But much needed. Not gonna lie…it was hard…I wanted to blurt a few obscenities but I kept my cool. All in all a good time. Very humbling. I definitely recommend this class if you are looking to try a challenge, something out of the ordinary. I felt a little bit like a fish out of water at first but once I got started, the instructor was helpful and came over and made some adjustments on me. She was friendly and made me feel more comfortable.
After class I thought I earned some yummy sushi from Central Market, so that made it all better.
Speaking of good eats, have you tried chia seeds yet? They are my new obsession. They remind me a little bit of the seeds in kiwis…they are crunchy and a great addition to any food. I looked up some of the benefits and here are some of the things this superfood provides.

I love them in the morning with my Chobani greek yogurt. I add a spoonful in there and a dollop of honey. Heavenly.
Sometimes I sprinkle them on my toasted english muffin w/ peanut butter. I also hear they are great in oatmeal, and when added to liquid, they create a gel-like texture.
How do you like your chia seeds? What is your favorite way to workout?
Did you miss the summer of chia? A few summers back, Patton was on the biggest chia kick. He had us all drinking chia water. It’s really good, especially with a little agave and/or lemon. I drank it a lot…only problem is that it clogs your water bottles and is hard to get out. I also love chia though and sprinkle into my oatmeal or protein shakes.
I did a barre class about a month ago at my gym. Definitely a different kind of workout! Good for you for trying it out! My favorite workouts are still running and yoga!
Patton is awesome 🙂 I have texture issues so not sure how I would feel about it in liquid form, but I love it in yogurt! Awesome job on your track workout this morning!
I have been hearing all the wonderful benefits of Chia seeds….and I LOVE chai tea (same chai right!?)
So tell me, where does one begin looking for chai?!
I love chai tea! But yeah chai and chia – not the same. You should be able to get chia seeds at any natural foods store. Not sure if you have a Whole Foods up where you live but they have them there. At the natural foods store they are usually located in the bulk foods section. Let me know if you find them – they rock!
Chia seeds are new to me but I’m a blueberry fan. Love them in the morning, under my porridge with a big dollop of Greek yogurt and some honey. Yum! 🙂
Yummy indeed! Love blueberries!
I’ve never tried chia or flax seeds, even though I see them everywhere. Definitely need to put them on my Grocery List!
They are great! Flax seeds are awesome too!
I ❤ chia as well! I put them in my oatmeal every morning. 🙂
I actually have not tried them in oatmeal but I am sure they would taste delicious! I will be trying that very soon. 🙂
