7 humid but chilly miles done this morning…it felt so good to finish this run strong! I am a cold weather runner at heart so I was so happy there was a nice chill in the air.
I don’t know about you…but down in Texas this is my most favorite time of year to run. I live for cool mornings, pullovers, running tights and yes, even ear warmers. The crisp cool fall weather also means running faster to warm up! For me at least. Here are a few ways you can enjoy fall running in your neck of the woods.
1. Get yourself a lightweight jacket that’s perfect for running in the wind/rain. Sometimes fall weather can be unpredictable so it helps to have gear that can protect you when that random rainstorm pops up. I love the ones from Asics.
2. Find a trail with some beautiful fall foliage. There’s nothing more beautiful than getting off the beaten path and enjoying the quiet of the trail.
3. It helps to have layers. Usually I’ll wear a tank or short sleeve shirt with a pullover top that I can quickly take off and tie around my waist. Make sure you have plenty of long sleeved light weight tops to go around as the temps get cooler.
4. Make sure your gear is reflective…or get yourself a headlamp if you run early in the mornings. They sell them at any outdoor store and often will have fun girly colors. I have a bright blue one from when I did the Grasslands Trail Run.
5. Go for a social run with friends or with a local running group. Lots of run clubs host weekly runs or fun Halloween runs this time of year that end with a happy hour. Get social and enjoy working it out with like minded folks.
6. Sign up for a festive fall race. I’ll be running the Pumpkin Spice 15k in November after my marathon and I’m definitely looking forward to it. Perfect name for a race…am I right?
7. Make time for a hot cozy fall beverage post run. Whether it’s a cup of hot holiday tea with honey at home or an skinny latte at Starbucks, having something to look forward to after logging those miles is all the more motivating.
What are some ways that you enjoy running in the fall?
Love fall running weather!
You and me both!
Fall running weather is the best! Under the layers category, I absolutely love wearing headbands that cover my ears as it gets colder outside. Love this post!
Keeping those ears warm on super chilly days sometimes makes all the difference!
Isnt it nice to run in cool weather and barely break a sweat lol – is the #pumpkinspice run challenging or pretty easy?
haha well I still sweat but I see what you’re saying! Come run the Pumpkin Spice with me! I have not run it yet. It’s out in Ft. Worth…there’s also a 5k/10k!
How far is the run or is it just 5k/10k? I def still sweat but when you have a breeze it doesnt even feel like it lol
Hilarious! Here’s the info for the race…& the location and etc. I’m serious about the meetup by the way! Either way we should definitely run into each other at a race soon 🙂

Thanks!!! Girl I dont know if I would be able to keep up with you… You run way further than my pitiful 4 miles lol 🙂
HA! A short run is better than no run at all my friend!
Yes that is very true! I want to do another 10k so maybe ill do the FtW race 🙂
i love Autumn running too — fave time to do a race (although i need to start signing up for more races year-round). that path looks so lovely – i wish i had more trails to run on!
Yes having races as mini benchmarks throughout the year personally keeps me really motivated! For the most part Texas weather makes racing year round fairly easy. 🙂 & Trail running is so much fun especially with friends!
Will there be pumpkin spiced lattes after the pumpkin spice race?
I would hope so! I’m just looking forward to my medal and fancy coffee mug 🙂
I want to start running again! Thanks 4 the tips
Anytime!
