Hi there! I’m still rocking and rolling with the training over here. The days are dwindling down til 26.2 number 22! I’ll be running on my own on Thanksgiving…doing a turkey trot (long run) in my ‘hood. Except I call it a Chelsea Trot. It has more of a ring to it, right? Right.
So leading up to Thanksgiving Day…I know a lot of folks feel like they have a tendency to overdo it this time of year. Let’s be real…the holidays are a great excuse to pack on the pounds. But there are so many ways you can avoid doing that and I have a few tips to get you through it!
–Get moving! Many of us have time off and utilize this short work week to get moving and grooving. Whether it’s a local turkey trot 5k/10k in your hood, a spin class or your favorite class at the gym. Go bust a move and get your sweat on so you can make room in that calorie budget. Hey…and if you’re really looking for a good little bootcamp style workout, here you go. You’re welcome.
–Do yourself a favor and resist the meal skipping. I don’t know about you but skipping breakfast especially the day of the turkey feast makes me absolutely ravenous. Start your day with some protein (eggs are my favorite) so you won’t want to eat everything in sight when dinner time rolls around.
–Fill up your plate with some color! At my house we do lots of grilled/steamed veggies to go along with the more hearty/rich type sides. I kind of love it when my plate looks like art work!
–Wear something flattering to the turkey day festivities. No buffet style pants allowed. I like to go with cute and somewhat comfortable. But nix the stretchy type stuff that will encourage overeating. Plus I like to wear stuff that will look cute in family photos. Oh so important. Hey, I’m a girl…what can I say.
Any turkey day tips to share with the group? What’s your favorite thanksgiving dish??
Smoked turkey…and sangria. Yes, that counts as a side dish.
Thanks for the workout chart. Just what I needed to kick my butt into gear.
Haha absolutely anytime!
My thanksgiving tip is to just hover around the veggie tray for snacking. And if im going to someone’s house then I bring a veggie tray if they wont be having one lol
haha well veggie tray hovering sounds like a good plan!
I’m a sucker for pumpkin pie and ice-cream and can never refuse a slice. I love your tips. I really try to change my mindset about holiday eating. Rather than a binge fest, I try to enjoy the company of others and enjoy goodies without going overboard.
I think Chelsea Trot should be an official run!
Right?! It has too much of a ring to it!!
That chart makes me glad I am not a huge fan of traditional Thanksgiving food. It’s usually the one day a year I don’t have to worry about overeating. 🙂
Yeah, it’s not really all it’s cracked up to be. I run for sangria 😉
thanks for the chart! Fun&informative!
Absolutely!
Love that- Chelsea Trot. So cute. Also- AWESOME tips. One of the worst things people can do is not eat the whole day leading up to one big meal- but there is such a misconception that that’s the “healthier” way! Happy Thanksgiving!
Indeed! Back atcha sweetie!!
