A Newbie’s Guide to Running Lingo.

So for you running newbies out there…(and veterans who just need a laugh) here are a few runner terms you may want to have under your belt! I’d like to call it running lingo.

In no particular order…

Runscape…simply put, a beautiful place to run. This can be a beach, your favorite trail, or somewhere amazing and scenic. Every mile is just pure bliss. The ultimate sweet escape.

Hawaii…now this is what I call a RUNscape.

Half marathon– The gateway drug to running 26.2 miles. Which is another gateway drug to ultramarathons. You have been warned.

Rungry– Something to happens to all of us runners. Hey, the struggle is real.

Racecation– Traveling to run a marathon or half marathon. Otherwise known as, the best getaway ever. Best way to see a city or town, on foot.

The wall. Oh yes.

Runner’s high. Something a runner may or may not believe in. I tell you what I am a believer. See here and here for more of my thoughts on this very topic.

Any more runner’s lingo/terms for the class? Do share!

    1. HA! It’s so funny, because I mentioned the gateway drug comment to someone this morning during our club run because she told me that ‘she doesn’t go all the way’. I love talking to people like that and eventually converting them to full marathon runners. It’s my special talent that I possess. 😉

  1. Half marathon a gateway drug, huh? Thanks for the warning! 🙂 I just signed up for my 1st half marathon and I’m currently training… wish me luck… it’s in 11 weeks! I’m hoping I can learn to break through my own wall for that one… my PR currently stands at 6 miles.

  2. ‘The Easy Run’…..when i started out i was at a complete loss as to what this ‘easy run’ idea was all about, these were not two words that EVER went together….someone told me an easy run is one where you can hold a conversation (are you serious??)….then they said, if you cant then you are running too fast, slow down until you can hold a conversation….i replied “if i slow down enough to hold a conversation i will be sitting in a chair!”
