It’s early. Your alarm goes off and you are.just.wanting.to.hit.snooze. So how do you pop yourself out of bed and into your run clothes and out the door? Well I am here to give you a few ways you can give yourself a BOOST of energy! And it is not always about the coffee. Let’s get to it.
–Motivating music/podcasts. Sometimes you need a little bit of feel good music in the mornings! These are some good playlists on Spotify to boost your mood and get you going.
Everyone is different though. Usually what pumps me up is hardcore hip hop or high energy dance music (hey I am a spin instructor on the side after all) So whatever floats your boat.
–Keep it simple. I know a lot of people like the pre-workout caffeinated stuff but for me too much of that stuff makes me super jacked up and messes with my stomach. I always make sure that I am hydrated in the mornings before I go out on my run and definitely take in some water to wake myself up. Some days I really need a sip or two of black coffee before hitting the ground running. Really it all depends on the day.
–For long runs, some early morning carbs do the trick. A slice of toast with a bit of almond butter on it, maybe a granola bar, banana. For me whichever is quickest and gets me out the door. Then after the run I will do the savory stuff that I typically crave which is often times…eggs or something of that nature.
–Have an early morning dance party! I do this all the time. Dance as you are getting ready. Pump yourself up. It takes time to master this (ha) but doing a little wiggle before you run might boost your mood and get you going.
–Dynamic stretching. I love high knees, butt kicks, things like that to wake up the body. Here are some good ones to get you running and gunning.
What are some ways you like to give yourself a pre-run boost?
The funny thing is that I was up at 5:30 am and in my running clothes. Ok, maybe it was closer to 5:48. Buuuuuut, I was like let me rest my eyes for 10 minutes. Yeah, I ended up waking up at 8 something. Luckily, it was raining this morning so I’ll call that a wash.
LOL yes, having running clothes prepped to go may help also! I’m such a regular morning person so I don’t need too many tactics…but you do what you can.
nice tips. I find making a list of things to look forward to after the run helps me too… and often that list includes breakfast 🙂 the last gif made me lol
For sure!! Post run delights are a delight!!
I’m currently loving the dance and jump about like a loon while I get ready tactic. Hey, it doubles as a warm-up, right?
ABSOLUTELY!!!
For me it’s all about just making sure I’ve gotten the right amount of sleep the night before! this summer has been SO SO hot, so I’ve had a whole lot of 4:30-5am wake-ups. So making sure I get into bed freakishly early the night before is the best way for me to make sure I’m energetic in the morning!!
SLEEP. I prioritize sleep over everything since I’m a bonafide morning runner. I know a lot of people have a hard time getting up because they just aren’t motivated OR are not good at going to bed on time. So yes, good point lol. Thanks boo!
Great tips! I always have to make sure my workout things are put together the night before and laid out for me to just grab and go, if I have to put together things in the morning I am way more likely to hit snooze.
Fa sho!! 🙂 🙂
