How to Embrace Fall Running.

As we enter the most blissful time of year to run (not that I am bias or anything…well who am I kidding…I really am) I wanted to touch on some of my favorite ways to make running during this season more enjoyable. Whether you are training for a 5k or ramping up your miles to run your first 100 miler – sometimes we all need a little encouragement from time to time. Here are ways I love to really maximize the miles when it comes to your everyday run in the fall.

Get up early to enjoy a crisp, cool fall morning. As a Texas runner who trains often in the summer time…the thing I absolutely look forward to the most is a morning with LOW HUMIDITY. Granted right now we are still pretty warm down in Texas but it is starting to cool off a little. I do love a morning when you just feel that ‘fall’ in the air.

Go on a ‘fail foliage exploration’ run. I always try to find a shaded trail path with a lot of LEAVES so I can see the fall leaves changing. In Texas we really do not start to see real color until I would say late November but when it does it sure is beautiful. But sometimes (like now) you will see some trees change faster than others. I absolutely love the slower transition.

Update your fall running wardrobe. This is a nice little guide to look at in terms of temperature  what you need to wear. Especially with the transition going from fall into the cooler weather months.

Plan a ‘coffee run’ with your favorite run buddy. Or someone who you haven’t run with in a while (due to the pandemic or etc). It is my most favorite way to ‘catch up’ – over some miles. And then finishing things off with a pumpkin cream cold brew from the ‘bucks.

Run NAKED – meaning with no data, or even with an idea of how many miles you want to go. Some days just stepping out of your door without a solid plan is all you need. Running free is my most favorite way to run. That is actually usually when I have the best run ever.

Share some of your favorite ways to embrace running in the fall!
