TGIFriday Faves.

Hi hey and hello! Happiest of Fridays to ya. Hope you have a marvelous fun filled weekend in store. I’ve got running, teaching spin class and a friend’s Christmas party on the agenda! Thank you baby Jesus for fun productive weekends where I get to do all of the things I love plus make a little fun money on the side. Color me excited.

Let’s get to this week’s faves!

The fact that my ultra running DFW fam is doing one of my favorite runs across town on NYE! We typically get in around 33-34 miles or so. You know, just a light baby ultra. HAHAHA. Hoping the weather cooperates for us this year. Let’s do this.

The 00’s R&B station on my Spotify. Drinking coffee, knocking out work and rocking out all Friday long.

Watching Christmas movies all week long. The Holiday is one of my faves. And Bad Santa. I think next I’ll watch Love Actually.

Do swear words make you run better??! I think maybe the occasional F-bomb (all about timing) may light a fire and help you finish strong.

Chili crunch baked feta?! I’m here for that.

And plus, your Friday funny.

Make it a great one!

Feel free to share what is on tap for your weekend! Anything holiday festive?

What is your favorite Christmas movie?

Random Thoughts Thursday.

Sunset miles this week have been my absolute jam. This week post race…I am really enjoying just running for stress relief reasons. After the race I went to a funeral on Monday, so rough start to the week you know. I really am needing some “SANITY MILES” throughout this holiday season. Anyone else on the “sanity miles” train with me??

For those of you who do not know – blog stalkers and/or social media stalkers are very real. I have thought about making my blog private for these very reasons. Crazy world we are living in you know. However, I stay public because I actually have had some amazing opportunities come across in the past sharing my love with the world. And truly, this community as a whole has been absolutely incredible. I’ve met some amazing folks and have documented my love for ultras and races so I can look back for YEARS to come. I would not have it any other way. How do you guys deal with STALKERS?? Do you have them? Just curious.

-Maybe my ‘only child syndrome’ makes me this way but…if I sense someone does not want me following them, – or they just do not take interest in me in general, I tend to leave them alone? LOL. End rant.

I also do realize because of the fact that I have accomplished a lot in the field of running people may follow me for RUNspiration and that is okay too. All love and puppies and rainbows over here.

I do think in this world of ‘oversharing’ people need to be cognizant of what they do share. I love sharing my spin classes with you all because I do have folks that actually take my classes that follow my page. BY THE WAY check out where I’ll be teaching this week. I’m also subbing on Saturday for those of you weekend warriors that need a workout. Running + spin class after = match made in Chelsea heaven.

You know what I haven’t done in a WHILE??! Gone to a really amazing brunch. I think I am going to make that happen this weekend.

Speaking of brunch – anyone else prefer their mimosas like this? I am just saying.

Best of luck to those running the Dallas Marathon on our home turf this weekend!!! Ya’ll. I definitely felt like a LOCAL CELEBRITY when they posted this on the marathon page this week. Now if only they could give me a free race entry from here on out. DALLAS MARATHON ARE YOU LISTENING???

And that is it for my rants and raves this week. Have a great one.

Feel free to share some rants and raves from this week!! Let’s chat while we have coffee. Or wine. I try not to discriminate.

Perpetual Motion Race Recap.

It has been quite some time since I have recapped a race, yes?! With the PanDEMI Moore and such going on I’ve taken a bit of a hiatus on large crowds and races etc. So I decided I wanted my fall/winter race experience to be a bit more “mom and pop” intimate.

A friend of mine who is a race director told me about her race and after looking at the signup fees I decided this was going to be my choice! I simply wanted to close the year out with some fun miles, and time on my feet while rocking out to my jams.

In terms of training I put in a 20 miler as well as a few other longer runs – so I knew I could put in the distance. My concern mostly was “can my attention span hold long enough to keep going for 6 hours” on a little over a .5 mile loop. I didn’t read the details actually and thought the loop was a little OVER a mile. Once I arrived I saw the tiny circle and had to adjust my expectations a bit.

This particular race also includes a 12 hour and a 24 hour distance. So my plan really was to check out the 6 hour and if I liked this race enough I would return in some capacity to run something longer. The 6 hour folks lined up and the gun went off right at noon. The 12 and 24 hour peeps started in the morning so they were already off to the races.

I started off with a pretty conservative pace but knew it would be a run/shuffle event especially with the humidity and it was a WARM Texas day. Temps soared to close to the 80s and with no cloud cover I got a tad sun burned in the sun! It was funny the temperature conditions reminded me of our beach weather when I was in Florida.

I did enjoy the crowd though as it was a lot of peeps there that I’ve known being in the DFW runner community for so long. It was folks of all ages out there and a lot of “Marathon Maniacs” (a group I was a part of before I stopped paying fees HAHA) and ultra runners that I know and love. So we talked about running and such while we kept trucking along.

After 3 hours passed the whole race goes COUNTER CLOCKWISE which absolutely helps with this short boring loop! After the 3 hour mark I will admit my boredom set in…so with the change up it kind of keeps things a tad interesting. The race volunteers were so great as well, keeping us stocked with snacks and cold refreshments. That part of the run very much made it feel like the trail race community.

Trail races are really good at taking care of the runners needs especially running the ultra distance. That is also another thing I love about intimate races (as someone who has done the HUGE ones and the mom and pop ones)

At the end I got over the marathon distance which I was thrilled about!! Even with all of the power hiking/shuffling/running I wasn’t sure I would make it but my determination and grit made it happen. I also had a podium finish (3rd female overall) which I was so pleased about. Got a fun pretty glass award AND a medal.

Overall I was happy I chose this race and so happy to get in my mini ULTRA. Haha. I would absolutely go back for this race simply due to awesome volunteers, great swag and small race feel.

I’ve signed up for the 50 miler for 2022 – my 7th 50 miler – so I will be keeping things going with my running and of course teaching all of my classes at the gym.

Cheers and happy racing to you all who will be closing out the year as well with some race fun.

When is the last time you have podium finished a race (let’s celebrate you too)?! Running any races soon?

TGIFriday Faves.

Hey there and Happiest of Fridays to ya! I’m so very ready for some Perpetual Motion! Come tomorrow your girl will be running ALL DAY with some ultra action. Can’t wait! Pray that the weather gods are good to us.

Let’s get to my faves from this week!

How to fuel long runs with real food. I am actually a huge fan of this. Some of my favorites are the squeezable packets of applesauce (I am grabbing some today for tomorrow’s ultra), dried apricots and those dang medjool dates. Freaking love those.

Setting boundaries around the holiday hoopla. So important especially during these crazy times we are living in.

5 ‘good mood’ foods that boost serotonin and soothe stress. Salmon and eggs for the win.

All of the Christmas lights along my running routes this week. Love that folks are getting into the spirit down in Texas.

And there you have it! Have a lovely weekend.

Do you have your Christmas décor up yet??
Abso-freakin-lutely.

Random Thoughts Thursday.

What a WEEK it has been on the work front! But alas I am squeezing some time to myself in. I’ve been doing some dark runs lately and I enjoy changing it up. Just call me Chelsea “change it up” TheDancingRunner Ross.

I am RACING THIS WEEKEND (say what?!) and I have to say this is going to be a much needed time on my feet, ultra fun run!! I’ve already seen the course, and I am excited to get out there with some of my friends. My good friend (who used to take my spin class back when I taught at 24) is the race director of this race. She’s also a badass ultra runner! Should be some good times.

I am doing the baby ultra (just 6 hours) there is also a 12 and 24 hour run. I kinda like ending the year on a ‘baby ultra’ note. I will get a feel for this race then if I end up liking it I’ll return next year for something longer.

On Cyber Monday I did some shopping and signed up for MY FAVORITE RACE the Hachie 50! That is one race I do not mind doing over and over again.

As much as I enjoy the 100 miler distance – I mean I did do it, twice I will say that is one race distance that you do have to change it up to enjoy. For me at least. I do know lots of trail runners that do the same races multiple times, just to get the different buckles and bragging rights. I am a believer in once you’ve done the HUNDO you can just say you’ve done one and people (your average Joe) will be more than impressed.

One day I may run another one, but I think eventually I’d like to do the 24 hour race (running for time as opposed to distance) and get more than 100 miles in on a flat, fast course. Hopefully the ‘rona won’t get worse and I can set my sights on that for 2022.

I will say that this without a doubt made me giggle yesterday. Omarion is an r&b singer for those who don’t know.

Share some randomness with me about your day!!

My fellow hundo runner peeps- I know I have a few out there…like you Ash…anyone out there enjoy doing the same 100 milers over and over again?!? Maybe there’s something about the familiarity of it and knowing you can finish.

Beach Vacation Recap, Turkey Day Plans and Wednesday Thoughts.

I am back from my extended weekend vacation!! And what a fun time it was. So much has been going on with work and personal stuff that this getaway could not have come at a better time. I just needed to run in a beautiful tropical place, see some palm trees and put my feet in the sand.

A girlfriend of mine has a place there so we went down to her spot and she showed me around her neck of the woods. Ft. Lauderdale is actually full of lots of culture and the cutest authentic coffee shops and fun beachy eateries. Fresh shrimp and beautiful beverages were had every single day.

It was quite cloudy most of the days but the afternoons were sunny so in the mornings I enjoyed running in the ‘hood with the ocean breeze hitting my face.

The humidity was intense but I really loved getting a good sweat on before hitting up the coffee shops for my post run iced coffee.

We went down there just the two of us (only children unite) and danced the nights away. She is like my sister from another mister.

I mean you truly also cannot beat these Florida sunsets and listening to the sounds of nature.

We both really did enjoy ourselves and really felt like we did not want to come home, but back to reality!

I have some long running scheduled for this week leading up to Perpetual Motion. Just an ULTRA ‘fun run’ for me in the coming weeks and I love that the pressure is off for this one. I plan on just closing out my year by getting lots of miles/time on my feet in.

I’ve also just been doing solo runs with everything going on in life (and being an only child) being solo is how I deal with things and life and such. A recharge of sorts. People that know me best know this and that it is nothing personal. Some days you just want to be around people who really know you, and get away from the hustle and bustle. I’m kind of at a time in my life where I want to do just that.

Thanksgiving will be lovely though. I plan on going to visit my Mama Bear and eating lots of mashed potatoes. Oh, and of course, running a Chelsea Trot.

Have a fantastic Turkey Day!

Any fun plans for your Thanksgiving? Are you running a Turkey Trot, or traveling anywhere?
